Elderly Challenge - Observation 2...

I have observed that the elderly have very little or no activities during the day. The same goes to my grandparents. Although they still go out to buy things but it is very seldom. I think that the community club could organize more activities and encourage them to go and participate. 

Elderly Challenge - Observation 1...

Some old people have difficulty with walking, so, they couldn't get from places to places easily. They will also get tired very easily, taking breaks after walking only a short distance. Even if they take public transport, it will also be very crowded and they might not even get a seat to rest their legs as the other passengers might not be willing to give their seat to the elderly. Sometimes, caretakers will take care of the elderly but some elderly, who do not have a caretaker to take care of, have to take care of them themselves. So, we should also help the elderly when we see one of them in need of help (eg. helping them 2 carry things)

The 4 key recommendation will make Singapore a more elderly-friendly place as the houses now have more features for the elderly. It also lets the elderly to be more engaged in the society and does not feel so lonely. We would also need to have some services that focuses on elderly and not on other age group. Sometimes, the elderly could also do something to contribute to the society so they will more active and not only staying at home doing nothing. It also gives the elderly to have more chances to show off their strengths in doing certain things.


1 way to make public housing more user-friendly:
- As some of the HDB flats have very narrow corridors, we should make the corridors fatter so the elderly can have more space to walk and not squeezing through the corridors


2 ways how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable:
- Have more gentle ramps or slope so it would be easier for the elderly to get from place to place
- Have more benches so that when the elderly is tired, there is a place for them to rest


After reading the CAI report, what are the 3 things that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges:
- We can also have some activities or games that educates the elderly
- We could have some field trips to the old folks home so we can care for them and understand them more
- As some elderly are not so independent, we could train them to be more independent and is able to take care of himself/herself     (if possible)

Personal Reflection (NEWater Visit)

1. I have learnt how NEWater is purified to become clean water for us to drink, what the four national 'taps' are, where the reservoir located.

2. I learnt that the used water are purified using microfiltration, Reverse Osmosis and UV Disinfection. The purified water could also be mixed with reservoir water and, after it undergoes conventional water treatment, it can produce drinking water.

3. 1 interesting thing I learnt... is...
The quality of NEWater is actually better than other water and is cleaner than PUB water (the requirement).

4. By reducing, reusing and recycling water, we could help conserve water for Singapore.

3 takeaways from today ADMT lesson
--> The product that we design should be attractive to the user (our target audience)
--> The product should be convenience to the user
--> We must do enough research before we start to brainstorm on our idea

2 concepts
--> The product should be feasible and not those which are impossible
--> We should be looking at the user's point of view and not from our point of view when we decide if the product is feasible or not.

What is 1 interesting thing I've learnt
--> We cannot work on our idea when we do not search for information on the topic. Even if we can, it might not be a very good idea.
